Cape Town City have unveiled the major signing of former Ajax Amsterdam midfielder who returns to the PSL after more than a decade away

The Citizens reveal Thulani Serero's jersey as number 8 and hope his creativity from midfield will fix their goal-scoring problems.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Thulani Serero returns to South African football after more than a decade abroad. He initially left in May 2011 to join Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam following an outstanding season under Foppe De Haan at Ajax's sister club in Cape Town.

That year, the young midfielder won several individual awards, including PSL Footballer of the Year and PSL Player of the Season.Serero spent six years at Ajax before moving to Vitesse, where he played for two seasons. He later joined UAE’s Al Jazira, winning the Best Foreign Player award, and most recently played for Khor Fakkan.

Now back home, Cape Town City has confirmed the 34-year-old will wear the number eight jersey, a number previously worn by club legends like Teko Modise and Lebo Manyama, the latter now serving as the club’s assistant coach.
